The Next Harry Potter?

I always thought when I become a mom I would never let my baby get hurt and I would always be there to protect her. Guess that was a nice thought but not the reality. After swim class a few weeks ago I put Jenna in her car seat and she started crying very hard. I knew the car was hot so for a second I thought she was just hot. Then I moved the metal buckles and noticed they were very hot and one had burned her poor leg. I felt so bad and then I felt guilty and started to feel like a bad mom, etc. The next morning I was changing her diaper, saw the little burn mark and again felt the guilt all over again. After examining it I realized that her burn looked like the Harry Potter scar, but on her leg! My next thought...how are we going to pay for Hogwarts? (cheesy Harry Potter joke)

After a week, the burn also known as the "Harry Potter Scar" was gone. I learned that there will be many more bumps and bruises (hopefully not burns) along the way and I probably won't be able to protect her from them...but I will always be there to comfort and bandage them up. Now we are in trouble if she starts asking for a wand or if Hagrid shows up on her 11th birthday (Harry Potter fans will understand)!

First comes Dada...then Mama?

The last few days Jenna has started to say "da-da!" I happened to have my phone near by to capture it tonight!

"Red " Chris & Lucy come to visit

Kerley, Jeff & "Red" Chris in 2003
Our good friend "Red" Chris [background story: I have called him this since meeting him at WSU. Jeff had another friend Chris so I needed something to tell them a apart. Chris has red hair, therefore he became "Red" Chris] and his fiance Lucy came to visit over Labor Day. They flew in from Virginia to attend a wedding in Seattle and decided to spend a few days with us and meet Jenna.
We went to the Portland Saturday Market in downtown near the waterfront. We have been wanting to go for awhile and thought it was a perfect place to show Chris and Lucy what Portland was all about. And boy were we not disappointed! We got to see many homemade recycled items, anything you can imagine for your dog, the finest food carts and other odds and ends. We even saw a bronze colored van with things stuck all over it, with a clown driving while waving a monkey puppet. Only in Portland! (FYI: I told Jenna to never go near a van like that).
The clown isn't showing, but you get the idea
After an hour at the market we ventured out to the coast to Cannon Beach. It was such a beautiful day (in the 80s)! Jenna got to try out her new sunglasses that Grammy & Papa sent. She cried at first but then didn't mind them.
We had such and great time with Chris & Lucy and we are looking forward to their wedding next September!

Feeding Myself & 1st Tooth

Jenna has learned to feed herself AND she is also in the process of getting her first tooth (that is what I say at the end of the video, but it got cut off). It is more getting more visible everyday (pictures to come).
